Design of directional discrete cosine frames

(in English) This paper proposes a directional block transform, called directional discrete cosine transform (DDCT).
Conventional directional transforms, such as curvelet and contourlet, can provide sparse image representations that
contribute high quality image analysis and restoration. However, they are not hardware-friendly algorithms for
practical computation, since they typically require high computational cost, large amount of memory usage, and
global memory access. Our directional block transform constructed from the discrete cosine transform (DCT) forms
a Parseval block-wise frame and the supports of frame elements are identical or disjoint. In experiments, we evaluate
the proposed method with conventional directional block transforms in image recovery by a convex optimization
and show its effectiveness.
