A constrained optimization approach to image restoration using blurred/noisy image pair

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Existing image restoration methods with a blurred/noisy image pair do not fully exploit the information on both images in the restoration phase. In this report, we propose a new image restoration method of using a blurred/noisy image pair, where the restoration is formulated as a constrained convex optimization problem, and then it is efficiently solved by the so-called alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). The proposed method has two advantages over the existing methods: (i) the optimization problem is solved without approximation to the objective function, leading to high quality restoration; and (ii) the parameters controlling the degree of data-fidelity have clear meaning, so that the parameter setting is much more intuitive. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
