Development of Oculofeedback system and Microsaccade feedback experiment

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Biofeedback can modulate brain activities by feeding back biosignals to induce preferable human condition and behavior. Eye movements are known to reflect activities of various brain areas, and among those, microsaccades (MSC) are considered to reflect covert spatial attention. Here we propose a novel biofeedback method named Oculofeedback, that is expected to modulate cognitive brain function such as covert attention by feeding back information in eye movements including MSCs. We developed a complete system to conduct Oculofeedback experiments, using Python so that it runs on PCs with high generalizability and extensibility. We performed a MSC feedback experiment, and the results suggest that MSC feedback can modulate MSC rate that is an indicator of human covert attention.
