Automatic blood vessel-based liver segmentation through the portal phase CT

(in English) Blood vessel (BV) has showed high performance at liver segmentation achieving rank 1 on sliver07. This method was semi-automatic including 5-interactions at the stage of abdominal blood vessel (ABV) segmentation and classification into hepatic (HBVs) and non-HBV. For full automation of this method, we propose an automatic segmentation of ABVs and subsequent classification into HBVs and non-HBVs. The proposed method comprises three stages. First, bone, kidneys, ABVs and heart candidates are automatically segmented. Second, bone is automatically segmented and classified into spine, ribs and pelvis. Third, ABV candidates are segmented by classifying kidneys and heart. A developed histogram based blood vessel segmentation is achieved. ABVs are classified into HBVs and non-HBVs. This method is applied to 20 datasets at the portal phase. Results are promising.
