A ventilator is one of the life-support devices that are centrally managed in hospitals. Maintenance and checking of ventilators are required by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Japan. Currently, the management is performed using paper sheet medium, incurring complicated managerial tasks. In this study, to reduce the burden of managerial works and improve the medical safety, we have developed an electronic management system. In particular, we applied model checking techniques to the system development process to ensure higher safety of this new system. The newly developed management system enables us the automatic counting of usage number of each device by associating the device itself with a respirator circuit. Consequently, introduction of this new system resulted in a high rating among clinical engineers in charge of medical device management in hospitals. |
