Fairness and QoS Improvement for In-Band Full-Duplex WLANs

(in English) Self-interference cancellation techniques enable in-band full-duplex wireless local area networks (WLANs), where transmit and receive simultaneously in the same frequency band. In particular, user-multiplexing unidirectional full-duplex (UFD) communication, where a full-duplex access point (AP) transmits a frame to a station (STA) and receives a frame from another STA, is seen as an enabler of the WLANs, since UFD is applicable for the conventional STAs without self-interference cancellation capability. However, the UFD communication causes inter-user interference, which cannot be canceled easily, and it is an open issue in the UFD WLANs. To mitigate the inter-user interference, STA-pair selection scheme has been discussed. However, since these schemes select pairs of STAs so that the system throughput is maximized, they could cause unfairness and long waiting time on some STAs which could cause or be exposed to large interference. In this paper, we propose a scheme to improve the fairness and quality of service (QoS). The proposed objective function considering waiting time increases transmission opportunity of STAs under not good channel condition so that fairness is achieved and delay decreases. Simulation results show that the proposed methods outperform the conventional method in terms of the fairness and QoS.
