On Surface Movement Time of Departure Flights from Runway D and Arrival Flight Time to Runway 34L at Haneda Airport

(in English) The snapshots of surface movement of departure flights from D runway (departing only) and arrival flight time within the terminal area at Tokyo International Airport (Haneda), are observed through the flightradar24 website. The performance of surface movements of each flight is evaluated in terms of time and distance. It is found that the surface movements up to the entry to the taxiway exclusively used to D runway are regular and stable, while the ones after that points are varying considerably depending on the existence of preceding flights. It is also found that the stopping and/or slowing down of movements are happening similarly among departing flights. The movements are affected directly by the position/distance to preceding flights rather than directly by the time of take-off separation to the preceding flight. The stopping and/or slowing down rules of movements are assumed and checked against to an actual movement.
The paper also presents a prediction scheme of arrival flight time within the terminal area at Haneda airport. Given an arrival flight (lead) at turning point toward the final fix together with its flying position, expected/preferred descent speed profile, and also given the immediately following (trail) arrival flight at that time together with its flying position, flying track (direction), expected/preferred descent speed profile and the required time separation at the fix, the appropriate turning point of the trail flight is selected, i.e. flight trajectory selected, as well as predicting its flight distance and flight time to the fix. The paper shows that the scheme makes it possible to introduce the prediction trajectory data to the ATC in the terminal area at Haneda airport.
