Digital-coherent technology has become an imperative technology for backbone optical communication systems, since linear distortions occurred in the transmission line can be compensated by digital signal processing (DSP). In order to extend the capacity and reachability of optical fiber communication systems, signal impairment induced by fiber-nonlinearity has been considered to be one of the issues to overcome. To mitigate the nonlinear distortion, we consider that approaches using digital signal processing are promising. Major challenge to realize the digital nonlinear compensators is how to reduce their large computational complexity without degrading the performance. In this paper, we introduce several complexity reduction techniques based on perturbation analysis of nonlinear propagation. Also, we show a result of transmission experiment with real-time DSP including nonlinear compensators. |
