(in English) To accommodate the ever-increasing Internet traffic, spectral efficiency of photonic networks must be increased. However, transmission impairment increases with increase in the spectral efficiency. We propose a novel spectral-efficiency maximization method using subcarrier-multiplexed signals that are defined adaptively to distance and hop count, which aims at the future ultra-dense wavelength-division-multiplexing system. To obtain the optimum subcarrier-multiplexed signals, we numerically analyze their transmission characteristics comprehensively considering fiber nonlinearity and filter narrowing simultaneously. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme substantially improves spectral efficiency in all network topologies tested.
