Baroreflex based on autonomic nervous activity is essential for the maintenance of homeostasis of blood pressure (BP). The maximum cross-correlation coefficient ($rho_{rm max}$) between the BP and the heart rate (HR) with variability for frequency components limited to the Mayer wave-related band is useful for the evaluation of the baroreflex function. However, continuous BP measurement with a bulky and expensive measuring device is required to calculate $rho_{rm max}$. In this paper, we propose a method of estimating the autonomic nervous activity using $rho_{rm max}$ obtained from a green light photoplethysmogram (PPG). We performed the Valsalva maneuver which is one of the tests for autonomic function, and we measured electrocardiogram, continuous BP, near-infrared and green light PPG at the four sites on the body. As a result, the green PPG can be used to evaluate autonomic function regardless of the measurement site. |
