Estimation of Autonomic Nervous Activity Using Green Light Photoplethysmogram

(in English) Baroreflex based on autonomic nervous activity is essential for the maintenance of homeostasis of blood pressure (BP). The maximum cross-correlation coefficient ($rho_{rm max}$) between the BP and the heart rate (HR) with variability for frequency components limited to the Mayer wave-related band is useful for the evaluation of the baroreflex function. However, continuous BP measurement with a bulky and expensive measuring device is required to calculate $rho_{rm max}$. In this paper, we propose a method of estimating the autonomic nervous activity using $rho_{rm max}$ obtained from a green light photoplethysmogram (PPG). We performed the Valsalva maneuver which is one of the tests for autonomic function, and we measured electrocardiogram, continuous BP, near-infrared and green light PPG at the four sites on the body. As a result, the green PPG can be used to evaluate autonomic function regardless of the measurement site.
