Influence of target patterns on dynamic characteristics of fixation eye movements

(in English) During a fixation, our eyes make small and involuntary eye movements,
and minute ballistic movements are called microsaccades. Previous study
has shown that microsaccades rate have strong relation with visual
attention system, and also it is influenced by fixation target patterns.
However, it has not been analyzed about the dynamic characteristics of
microsaccades in detail. In this study, we investigated the relationship
between target shapes and characteristics of microsaccades. Subjects
were instructed to gaze at three fixation targets for seven seconds on
each trial. We analyzed microsaccade amplitude, peak velocity, duration,
frequency, and fixation instability. The results indicate that the
dynamic characteristic of microsaccades have no correlation with
fixation target patterns, which means that the influence of target
patterns is unrelated to arousal state.
