[Invited Talk] Nearfield interaction of paired metaatom and metasurface and their functionalities and applications

(in English) Metamaterials, which enables us to utilize novel optical functionalities beyond conventional optics, have been actively studied in recent years. Since subwavelength resonant elements such as split-ring resonators are usually used as building blocks in such metamaterials, their working frequencies are restricted in a narrow spectral range. However, new designing freedom can be introduced by stacking several metaatoms or metasurfaces. Here we show novel resonant states induced by mutual interaction in such stacked metaatoms or metasurfaces, and our recent results in developing novel terahertz and microwave devices based on their resonant characteristics.
