Low-light characteristics of polymer photocell with S-shaped I-V curve

(in English) Photocells. (Solar cells) utilizing novel materials such as polymeric semiconductors occasionally show S-shaped current-voltage characteristics. Photocells are used not only under strong sunshine at fine weather but also under weak irradiation light. In addition, due to the increased attention to IoT (Internet of Things) these days, photocells are growing in importance as independent electric power source for indoor equipments such as wireless sensor network devices. Usually, a photocell with S-shaped characteristics shows small fill-factor and thus it has low power conversion efficiency. Therefore, although there are some researches for exploring the physical mechanism of the S-shaped characteristics, it is rarely attempted to find the usefulness of such devices. Here, the low-light characteristics of a solution-processed polymer photocell with halogen-free solvent and unmodified fullerene, which shows S-shaped current-voltage curve under 1 sun illumination, are briefly reported. It has been found that the device with S-shaped characteristic at 1 sun shows normal characteristic at 10-3 sun, resulting in reasonable power conversion efficiency.
