Study on subjective impressions and acoustic characteristics of elderly speech

(in English) There are a variety of works concerning subjective impressions of elderly speech, and hoarseness is commonly selected as the most dominant subjective characteristics of elderly speech. On the other hands, acoustic parameters, which characterize elderly speech, have not been sufficiently investigated, and different speech databases have been used for the analysis. This study aims at investigating the acoustic parameters related to the subjective impressions of elderly speech based on the previously proposed hearing and speech database, which consists of individual audiograms and uttered speech signals. Concerning the Japanese vowel /a/, it is suggested that the decrease of the hearing level makes the tilt of the spectral envelope small. It is, however, difficult to find out the comprehensive relationship between subjective impressions and acoustic parameters for the whole vowels due to the wide individuality of elderly speech.
