The wireless smart utility network (Wi-SUN) systems are expected to be adopted to infrastructure fields such as gas and water, and sensor network systems. In these networks, a low power media access control (MAC) protocol that provides battery powered long life networks is required, and the feathery receiver initiated transmission (F-RIT) protocol based on IEEE 802.15.4e has been proposed as an implementable MAC protocol by authors. This report evaluates the F-RIT experimentally to prove the feasibility of the F-RIT based bidirectional transmissions. For the experimental evaluation, the F-RIT algorithm was implemented in the commercial Wi-SUN hardware module. To evaluated with realistic environment, several modules were set up. The experimental results show that the F-RIT can achieve more than 90% transmission success rate under the applicative condition of the smart metering system. Moreover, the mechanism of transmission errors in the F-RIT protocol are clarified by analysis of experimental results to indicate the direction of further improvement of the F-RIT protocol. |
