[Invited Lecture] A Study of 4G LTE/5G Coexistence on the Same Frequency Band

(in English) It is considered that high frequency band will be allocated for 5G service. High frequency band is suitable for high throughput service within small spot because wide bandwidth can be used. However, in the case that 5G service requires wide coverage, it is not feasible to provide the large coverage area with high frequency band because of high propagation loss and high straightness of radio waves. To solve this issue, 4G/5G coexistence on low frequency band e.g., 800MHz is considered. However, in the case that 4G signal and 5G signal are adjacent on frequency domain, mutual interference may occur due to the difference of 4G/5G waveform. Therefore, an effective method is required to suppress the mutual interference.
In this paper, we focus on the interference from 5G signal to 4G signal and propose a novel interference suppression method. Through the experimental evaluations, we verified that the proposed method can suppress the interference and reduce the degradation of 4G uplink throughput compared to the method without our proposal.
