We investigate the PLC-based 2-mode multi/demuliplexer using wavefront matching method based on 3D scalar finite element beam propagation method. The structure of LP01/LP11a 2-mode multiplexer based on asymmetric directional coupler is optimized with multiple wavelength simultaneously to overcome the bandwidth limitation caused by wavelength dependence of coupling length. The designed structure is fabricated and broadband characteristics are well-reproduced, showing the usefulness of proposed MUX/DEMUX. Physical explanation of the broadband operation is considered based on waveguide width geometry. |
