Comparison of Salient Feature for Material Appearance

(in English) Material appearance, especially gloss, is very important visual cue of object recognition related to the surface smoothness. Therefore, the best condition of lighting and viewpoint is desired to clarify for the emphasizing of the material appearance. This paper provides the method of exploration for signature appearance by using saliency map. The saliency map was derived by the estimation with Itti saliency model, and the measurement of gaze position. By using the homologizing to the saliency map, we calculated the characteristic angle of polygon in 3D shape with saliency map. Finally, the well-stocked view of material appearance was transformed to salient feature, which indicates the degree of inclusive rate for the reflection angle. Although we failed to find the appropriate saliency model to detect gloss appearance, we found that an appropriate salient features exist in the information of reflection angle for gloss appearance.
