A Proposal of Efficient NAV Notification Scheme for Establishment of Virtual Private Channel in WLAN System
Yusuke Nakazawa, Shinichi Miyamoto (Wakayama Univ.) SR2016-65
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) To establish the private channel for area owner's wireless local area network (WLAN) systems, periodic medium reservation scheme has been proposed. In the scheme, guard stations spatially distributed in the private space send the network allocation vector (NAV) frames periodically. Periodic NAV frames notify the medium reservation period to the visitor's WLAN, and the visitor's WLAN that hears NAV frames defers the access to the medium. To prevent the interfering WLANs existing outside the private space while notifying resource reservation period everywhere in the private space, the number of guard stations should be increased. However, since the transmissions of NAV frames from many guard stations cause signaling overhead, the excessive signaling overhead can be overwhelming with the increase of guard stations and it will degrade the throughput of area owner's WLAN. To reduce the signaling overhead while obtaining the sufficient transmission performance, this paper proposes simultaneous transmission of NAV frames from multiple guard stations. Since the period required to transmit NAV frames are shortened, the signaling overhead can be reduced. Numerical results confirm that the proposed scheme enhances the medium access control (MAC) efficiency of area owner's WLAN system.
