We investigate the broadband mode multi/demultiplexer using Mach-Zehnder interferometer having delay line for combined use of the MDM and WDM. In order to constitute the Mach-Zehnder interferometer for the different modes, we propose the 3dB mode divider using tapered asymmetric directional coupler to equally distribute the input optical power to the fundamental mode and the high-order mode, and investigate in detail the conditions of broadband 3dB operation. We investigate the transmission spectrum and inter-modal crosstalk of Mach-Zehnder interferometer using proposed 3dB mode divider and relationship of delay line and the FSR. Also we show that proposed structure is useful as MDM/WDM mode multi/demultiplexer. |
