[Invited Talk] LoRaWAN: new IoT access networks, opportunities and challenges

(in English) Daily life applications of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication are constantly increasing. The unprecedented way that M2M communication connects communication-enabled devices enables the Internet of Things (IoT) and Lower Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN). Hence, this study introduces the new technology Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) which is designed for long-range applications of M2M communication. LoRaWAN with low bandwidth requirements that is typical for IoT and M2M scenarios are not well supported by existing technologies. It is optimized for low power consumption and to support large networks with millions of devices. LoRaWAN has innovative features, support location, low-cost, and low-power; also it can even run on energy harvesting technologies. The issues of LoRaWAN are discussed including long range capability, low power communication, single gateway and device classes. In the near future, LoRaWAN can address a massive IoT market segment where existing cellular and Wi-Fi technologies have some challenges.
