No Regrets for Our Study? Shigemi Saito (Tokai Univ.) US2016-55 |

The study between my graduation work at Tohoku University and my retirement from Tokai University is recollected. Although curious characteristics of magnetostrictive transducers under the intense driving condition were met at Tohoku University, the causes are still remained unknown. At the initial stage joining with Tokai University, the study on the nonlinear propagation of focused sounds started in the overseas study at The University of Texas. Inspired by the prosperity of acoustical microscope, the quasi-microscope was realized to image the acoustic nonlinearity parameter B/A in a biological tissue just before the retirement. Before obtaining diseased tissues desired for the test sample, the acoustic system to be a core part of the equipment was accidentally broken and was never recovered before the retirement. That was my complete failure. As seen above, our study was fruitless and of continuous failures. I can never say “No Regrets for Our Study” modifying the title of Mr. Akira Kurosawa’s film. It would be better if young researchers took a lesson from my recollection and patiently worked for the subjects with long-range visions. |
