In this paper, the selective mode use of a few-mode fiber is proposed. We design and fabricate a few-mode fiber with a large effective area supporting four LP modes (LP01, LP11, LP21, LP02 mode), and experimentally investigate the applicability of the transmission system without MIMO DSP for compensating modal crosstalk between LP modes. We also examine the modal crosstalk and nonlinear effect tolerance of the LP modes, and suggest that the LP21 mode has the potential to extend the transmission distance further than other modes. |
