Reducing near-far problem by elevated pseudolite with transmission power control
Satoshi Takahashi (Hiroshima City Univ.) CS2016-46
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Three-dimensional satellite navigation on the ground requires radiowave reception from more than the four satellites. The use of a pseudo satellite, or pseudolite, would be a possible way for enabling us to know a users position. It is usually placed on the ground, transmits radiowave that is the same format as the navigation satellites transmit, and acts as the navigation satellite. We can use a pseudolite as one of a needed satellite of obtaining the position within a distance the receiver can use the radiowave. In close vicinity to a pseudolite, however, the receiver encounters an excessive reception power and it results in lost of the position by blocking the satellite radiowaves. The phenomena is referred to as the near-far problem. For alleviating the effect, the burst pulse transmission and its power control have been proposed for the pseudolite radiowave. This paper evaluates increase in the availability of a pseudolite signal and reducing interference due to the near-far problem by elevating the pseudolite.
