Model of the retinal cone mosaic with the dynamic adaptation mechanisim

(in English) Color vision is mediated by three types of cone photoreceptors, the L, M and S cones. These cones packed as cone mosaic in the retina. One of the most important functions of the cone is light adaptation. Cone photoreceptors show the dynamical adaptation property, i.e., the cone reponse depends on the temporal characteristics of the light stimulus. In the previous study, we developed a mathmetical model of the cone mosaic based on the physiological and anatomical characteristics. The model incorporated the spectral sensitivities of three types of cones, as well as the nonuniform spatial distribution of cones. In order to improve the cone mosaic model, we introduced the dynamical adaptation mechanism in the present study. In simulation, we calculated information rate with/without the dynamic adaptation from the voltage responses of the cone. The influence of the dynamic adaptation on the cone was analyzed from the point of view of information theory.
