Optimization of reference beam width for high-capacity holographic data storage

(in English) A cold storage is low-cost and long archival lifetime storage for data of relatively few access frequency (cold data). Holographic data storage has a potential to achieve high-capacity cold storage systems more than 1TB/disc. Recently, we developed a new technology for high capacity of angular-multiplexing holographic data storage using the reference beam diameter optimization with a special wedge prism optical system. In this paper, we report the theory and the design method of the wedge prism optical system. Our developed technology improves both the medium use efficiency and light use efficiency in hologram recording. We confirmed that the developed technology reduces an unwanted exposure region on a disc by 1/10 of conventional mirror method and achieve 5% of the target unwanted exposure rate.
