Ultrasonic Complex Vibration Welding of Many Metal Foils and Terminals of Li-ion Battery and Capacitor -- Ultrasonic complex vibration welding using various welding tips --
Jiromaru Tsujino (Asahi EMS/Kanagawa Univ.) US2016-66
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Ultrasonic complex vibration welding using two-dimensional vibration stress has significantly superior welding characteristics compared with conventional welding using linear vibration. Welding of same and different metal parts and foils such as aluminum and copper electrode foils and terminals is important for electronic devices, Li-ion battery or EDLC electrodes and other various industry fields. For welding of various welding specimens, various welding tips were developed and studied on their vibration and welding characteristics. Installation of non-resonant type welding tip causes resonance frequency shift of total vibration system and affect auto-frequency tracking control system and driving of the welding tip. But, vibration characteristics with these welding tips could be improved by using power factor compensation. To improve vibration characteristics further, complex vibration converter must be designed considering equivalent mass of non-resonant welding tip. Using these various welding tips, welding specimens such as many lapped metal foils, terminals were welded successfully with material strength and small deformation and smaller vibration fatigue damages.
