Evaluation of Power Transmission Efficiency between Array Antennas in the Near Field

(in English) Power transmission efficiency between array antennas is calculated by regarding array them as aperture antennas. However, it is reported that there is a considerable gap between theoretical efficiency and measured one. As the reason, it can be considered that the theoretical calculation doesn't include losses. In particular, an incident wave on receiving antenna is a spherical wave in the near field and a loss occurs in power combined circuit because the amplitude and the phase of the electric field are different between elements. In this paper, we designed an array antenna and estimated losses such as antenna loss and synthesis loss in the simulation. Finally, we measured the power transmission efficiency by using the designed array antenna. As the result, we found that the efficiency including the estimated losses approached the measured efficiency.
