A Gm-cell integrator is preferred to an op-amp integrator for applying to a continuous-time $Delta Sigma$ analog to digital converter (CT $DeltaSigma$ ADC) having a wide bandwidth.
However, linearity of conventional Gm-cells including a source degeneration and a flipped voltage follower (FVF) is not enough to obtain good SNDR of the CT $DeltaSigma$ ADC.
A cascoded FVF Gm-cell which has cascode transistors in its feedback loops is considered in order to solve this issue.
The cascoded FVF Gm-cell has better IIP3 than the conventional Gm-cells by 8dB according to the simulation results in a 65nm CMOS technology.
A designed 20MHz bandwidth CT $DeltaSigma$ ADC employing the cascoded FVF Gm-cell achieves SNDR of 72dB with power consumption of 7mW. |
