Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In wireless smart utility network (Wi-SUN) systems, terminals should be driven for a long term with their batteries because they do not have external power supplies. To reduce the power consumption of the terminals, a feathery receiver initiated transmission (F-RIT) protocol complied with IEEE 802.15.4e has been proposed as a media access control (MAC) protocol. The F-RIT protocol supports a low-power consumption operation and multi-hop transmissions. The F-RIT protocol achieves high transmission success rate on the normal operational conditions of the smart metering systems. However, a timeout problem caused by the RIT mechanism deteriorates transmission success rate under the high traffic environment. The smart metering systems may face the high traffic environment in the emergency cases. This report proposes an enhanced RIT protocol to suppresses the occurrences of the timeout problem. The proposed enhanced protocol was evaluated by not only computer simulation but also experiments using actual Wi-SUN modules under interference environment. The both evaluation results show the effectiveness of the proposed enhanced protocol, e.g. the incident rate of the timeout problem is suppressed by around 30% and over 90% transmission success rate can be achieved under the data generation rate is once every ten seconds.
