Field experimental trial on ultra-reliability low latency communications (URLLC) for 5G

(in English) 5G is expected to realize 3 usage scenarios, enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC) and Ultra Reliability and Low Latency Communications (URLLC) in order to support the diverse applications and services of the future. To realize URLLC, in 3GPP it is required that the one way user plane latency is less than 0.5 ms. In this paper, we investigate a new frame structure of the new radio (NR) in 5G, which is under discussion in 3GPP. This new frame structure has a shorter TTI and a self-contained structure. To clarify the performance, we conducted outdoor experiments and evaluated the user plane latency and the BLER performance over multiple locations. As a result, we show that the new frame structure realizes a low one way user plane latency of less than 0.5 ms. Furthermore, we have shown that this structure can achieve high reliability and low latency even when the user equipment is moving with about a speed of 25 km/h.
