[Special Invited Talk] Wireless Access and Optical Transmission Technologies for 5th Generation Cellular Systems

(in English) In the fifth generation (5G) cellular systems, in addition to the extension of broadband multimedia services, machine to machine (M2M) services including massive connection M2M and, M2M with low latency and high reliability are promoted as the potential major application fields. In this trend, quality of services (QoS) supported services rather than best effort services will be more popular, and “Connection” of cellular systems to vertical sectors will the most important challenges. In accordance with this trend, applicable spectrum will also be expanded to millimeter wave to drastically enlarge available bandwidth, by which about 100 times more bandwidth will be available for the future 5G systems. As a result, the highest link data rate to be supported by each access point is expected to reach 100 Gbps or more. In this case, requirements for optical fronthaul/backhaul based on radio on fiber (RoF) should also be extended. In this paper, technologies for wireless access and RoF technologies based on these considerations will be explained.
