[Poster Presentation] Effectiveness of High-Speed Imaging on Predicting Thermal Coagulation Utilizing Acoustic Radiation Force by Pulsed High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound

(in English) To realize the treatment ensuring both safety and effectiveness in high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment, it is necessary to visualize the focal zone of therapeutic ultrasound beam before the treatment. The tissue displacement induced by acoustic radiation force generated by HIFU with a duration of order of ms exposure was measured to predict the region of heat source due to ultrasound absorption. Since a tissue transiently reacts to the HIFU pulse exposure, prediction accuracy decreases with time. In this study, the distribution of displacements during HIFU pulse exposure was estimated by applying extrapolation in time domain from those immediately after HIFU exposure acquired via high-speed ultrasound imaging. The results showed that the proposed method improved prediction accuracy.
