Along with the recent development of quantitative ultrasound, understanding of the acoustic characteristics of minute regions such as cell nucleus and cytoplasm is required. When the measurement is performed with ultra-high frequency, the roughness of the specimen seems to be a serious problem for the estimation of speed of sound. In this report, as a basic study to evaluate the acoustic characteristics of a micro region, the influences of the roughness of the surface of the thin slice was analyzed. Time of flight from the specimen surface, and echo signal waveform from the surface of the specimen were employed as an index to evaluate the 4 cases different degrees of liver fibrosis. As a result, the influence of roughness for echo signal was small, and a significant difference was observed between the cell nucleus, cytoplasm, and fiber for each case (p <0.01). These results was suggested that the physical properties changed and it could be detected using ultra-high frequency ultrasound. |
