Calibration of the broadband split-beam system using the cepstral analysis

(in English) A broadband signal offered the advantage of high range resolution and the positions of fish were estimated by using the split-beam system. The target strength (TS) spectrum of each fish could be computed by isolating the echoes from multiple individual fish and estimating their positions. In order to accurately estimate these TS spectra, it is necessary to calibrate characteristics of system response of broadband split-beam system. By using the calibration sphere, it is difficult to compute these system responses because of the inherent resonances associated with the scattering. Several methods have been proposed to calibrate the broadband system. One method was to calibrate the system by using sub-bands of the near-stationary response of two different-sized spheres. Another method was to calibrate the system response by using one sphere and the cepstral analysis, which can compute the spectral envelope by extracting only the low quefrency components. In this paper, we propose calibration method for broadband split-beam system by optimizing the parameters of low quefrency components.
