It is said that intentional lying is possible in 4- or 5-year-olds, and people also can tell lies in order to benefit others, which seems to require higher level of cognitive perspective than the level of just protecting themselves. In present study, 60 participants who ranged from 5 to 7 years old were asked to answer or respond to the questions of a second-order false belief task and a white lie task, in which effects of the understanding of second-order belief on whether or not they tell white lie was examined. As a result, average score of 6-year-olds in the second order task was higher than that of 5-year-olds, and it is suggested that children’s performance in white lie task is predicted by the performance in second-order false belief task (belief question) and their age. |
