Drowsiness evaluation using gazing time information under driving simulator environment

(in English) According to the several studies, it was shown that the majority of traffic accidents were caused by dozing driving. In order to solve this problem, many types of research have been done. In this study, we investigated the relationship between drowsiness and physiological state using the gazing time information obtained by the eye gaze tracker under the driving simulator environment and Japanese version of Karolinska sleepiness scale (KSS-J). As results, we found that gazing time information was significantly related to the degree of drowsiness (no sleepiness (KSS-J from 1 to 5), weak sleepiness (KSS-J from 6 to 7), and strong drowsiness (KSS-J from 8 to 9); p<0.001). It is suggested that the gazing time information could be used to evaluate drowsiness under driving conditions.
