High Performance 10 Gbps Optical Burst Mode Receiver Configuration -- A Method for Automatically Switching Between Two Transfer Functions --

(in English) Optical burst mode receivers are indispensable for Passive Optical Networks (PONs) and Optical Switched Access Networks (OSANs). We proposed that a transfer function Gn(jω/ω0)=1-Hn(jω/ω0) (Hn(jω/ω0): a Bessel filter one of degree n) be coupled between Trans-Impedance Amplifier (TIA) and Limiting Amplifier (LA) in the optical burst mode receiver, and showed that the proposed receiver has better performance than those of conventional AC-coupling. We then showed a synthesis method of LCR circuits from Gn(jω/ω0). We also proposed an optical burst mode receiver with fast response transfer function Gn(jω/ωF) and slow response Gn(jω/ωS); the receiver first uses Gn(jω/ωF) to receive the beginning of a burst signal, and switches from Gn(jω/ωF) to Gn(jω/ωS) just after Gn(jω/ωF) strips the DC component of the input signal. This paper presents circuit synthesis of Gn(jω/ωF) and Gn(jω/ωS). We investigates a mechanism for automatically switching between Gn(jω/ωF) and Gn(jω/ωS) at an optimal time in the sense of an open eye, and show a circuit for realizing the mechanism. We also simulate a burst mode receiver with the proposed mechanism, and thus show its better performance.
