Development of Information Collection Supporting System for Chinese Self-guided Tour to Japan

(in English) Recently, the number of Chinese tourists traveling to Japan is rising rapidly. As it is easier for individuals to apply for a Japanese tourist visa, more and more Chinese tourists travel to Japan independently, rather than travel with tour group. The travel trend of Chinese tourists in Japan shows that the metropolitan area, Osaka and Kyoto are most visited areas. However, the visiting rates of most other areas of Japan are only less than 1%. In China, travel information of Japan mainly focuses on the most famous areas. The transmission of tourist information is imperfect as well. Therefore, it is dicult for independent Chinese tourists to collect travel information about Japan. We have developed the information collecting support system for Chinese who want to travel in Japan. Experiments were conducted to check the usefulness of the system. The system has the the map hint function and a tourism web page translation function. The results were discovered as following: (1) The map hint function may make it easier to collect tourist information in Japan. (2) Chinese people are more willing to search in ocial Japanese tourist websites when they are translated into Chinese. It can be easier to obtain information from Japanese tourist websites for Chinese tourists.
