A fast-chirp signal generated by a PLL is distorted by its transient characteristic and it has overshooting around turn-around points. In this paper, a linearity improvement method of the fast-chirp signal including turn-around points for the PLL by using frequency detector and division ratio modification is proposed. In the proposed method, the PLL generates the chirp signal with division ratio with triangular wave transitions. The proposed method measures a frequency difference between the output and an ideal chirp signals, and a delay time defined as the time difference between the frequency peaks of the output and the ideal signals. And the proposed method calculates a new division ratio at advance of the delay time. In the next chirp, the chirp signal with the modified division ratio will improve the linearity of the output signal. An iteration of the measurement of the frequency error and modification of the division ratio enables higher linearity improvement in the proposed method. Experimental results show that the maximum frequency error decreases by 90.3% after 3 times of iteration compared to that without the proposed method. |
