In this paper, we propose Fishbone-in-Cage Capacitor (FiCC) that is a new variant of metal fringe capacitor (MFC), and show its electrical properties obtained by 3D field solver and actual measurement. MFC using capacity between metal wires is compatible with ordinary CMOS process. It has an ideal linear characteristic. When we integrate small MFCs, however, we must pay special attention to, and quantitative evaluation for, cross talk capacity between the MFC and outside metal objects including signal wires and other capacitors. In this paper, we propose an MFC that is composed of inner electrode and outer electrode, and the former is shielded by the latter. To obtain the properties, we create 3D model of proposed FiCC and ordinary MFC, and evaluated cross talk capacity with an outside signal line or another capacitor placed closely. As a result, we confirmed order-of-magnitude reduction of the cross talk capacity between inner electrode of FiCC and outside objects. |
