| (in English) | With open data strategies being implemented by various national and local governments, much progress is being made in the digitization of open data and its utilization. However, significant gaps have become obvious in the policies and practical application of open data by various cities and regions. In Scotland, one of the more advanced regions for open data promotion, government-led and regional collaborative projects have been carried out with a focus on opening government data sets and also the development and release of smartphone apps to support local users and visitors (tourists). In Japan, regional disparities are widening and in some localities more community initiatives and more citizen engagement are needed to promote the opening of public data and development of open data applications. This paper discusses issues in local region open data application development based on the experience of the development of a smartphone app for the collecting and sharing of tourism data for Yamanashi Prefecture. |
