(in English) Sightseeing has become more diverse. The places where movies and TVdramas are filmed or the locations for animation stories have been gaining popularity as tourist destinations in addition to traditional tourist spots. This phenomenon is called "media induced tourism" or "holy land pilgrimage" (Seichi-Junrei) and has been drawing increasing attentions due to its positive and sometimes explosive economic impact. In addition to traditional media, Social Networking Services have started to affect the creation of new tourist spots. Based on the background above, this paper focuses on the influence of social media on tourism by investigating actual postings on a major SNS, Instagram, in order to examine the relationship between Instagram postings and
sightseeing destination popularity.
