Wormhole attack prevention in MANET using multipath routing protocol

(in English) In recent years, mobile ad hoc networks(MANET) are becoming more and more important when it is hard to use normal network infrastructures. However, the open nature of the wireless communication makes them vulnerable to various security attacks. Wormhole attack is one of the most serious attacks against MANET. By employing out of band link called as ‘wormhole,' attacker provides routing path and takes illegal actions such as data corruption and eavesdropping over communications.
Although various countermeasures are proposed against wormhole attacks in MANET, it is hard to detect wormhole attacks when the wormhole links have similar communication properties as normal radio links. In this paper, we have conducted some network simulations for the hard-to-detect wormhole attacks in MANET, and evaluated the attack prevention using multipath routing protocol. The results show that the multipath routing will reduce the attack success rate even though it couldn’t detect the path where wormhole exists.
