Variation in spontaneous activity patterns in modular neuronal network models

(in English) A neuronal network forms a modular structure which is represented by the connection structure between columns in the cerebral cortex of the brain. By integrating numerical analyses with experimental results on cultured neuronal networks, we constructively study the relationship between the modular structure and the spatiotemporal pattern of spontaneous neural activity. We focus on the synchronous bursting activity that is dominant in cortical cultures and report that synchronous bursting activity in network is strongly modulated according to the difference of local structures such as self-connections and intermodular connections.
