Wearable Electromyogram Measurement Textile for Periodic Limb Movement Monitoring in Daily Life

(in English) As sleep disorders are reported to be associated with various diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, its early detection and appropriate treatment are quite important. Periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD), which is one of the sleep disorders, induces nocturnal awaking and daytime sleepiness by involuntary movement of limbs called PLM while sleeping. Since it is difficult for PLMD patients to be aware of PLM while sleeping, PLMD cannot be confirmed until polysomnography(PSG) inspection. Moreover, PSG inspection is burdensome on financial and time perspectives so that there said to be a lot of PLMD potential patients who have not receive appropriate medical treatment. Since Electromyogram(EMG) of bilateral anterior tibialis is used for definite diagnosis of PLMD, we propose new wearable PLM examination system with textile electrode of Nishijin brocade. As an initial study, we confirmed that the proposed wearable electrode is usable for EMG measurement of anterior tibialis by measuring the EMG of ankle dorsiflexion which is similar to PLM.
