Functional brain imaging of prefrontal activity during a center of pressure tracking task using near-infrared spectroscopy

(in English) Quantitative evaluation of balance capability is important because falls are a major factor to greatly lower the QoL of elderly people. The aim of this study is to investigate the activity of the prefrontal cortex during a center-of-pressure (COP) tracking task as a quantitative evaluation method of balance ability. In this study, eight young, healthy subjects participated four COP tracking tasks where there were two target frequencies (0.15 Hz and 0.675 Hz), and two directions to move its COP (medial-lateral and anterior-posterior). The brain activity in the prefrontal cortex was measured using near infrared spectroscopy during these tasks. Differential activities of DLPFC and frontal pole were suggested according to the different tasks.
