We theoretically show that undesired noise can be eliminated in generating Physical Random Numbers (PRNs). PRNs can be unpredictable since PRNs are generated based on nondeterministic processes of a physical entropy source. The unpredictability is an essential feature for information security. However, noise unavoidably contaminates the observation of the physical process. If the noise has time correlation, generated PRNs can also have time correlation, which implies that the unpredictability of PRN generation is decreased. Therefore, PRN generator should carefully be designed with taking account of such noise. Our theoretical framework indicates that the effect of undesired noise can be removed if we know only the mutual information between the entropy source and observed signals even without knowing concrete time series of noise. |
