Measurements of radio propagation considering the propagation direction in mature and deciduous stages in 920-MHz band in a mulberry farm

(in English) Radio wave propagation characteristics were measured in 920 MHz band in a mulberry farm, in order to calculate the link budget for construction of a farm sensor network. The height of transmitting and receiving antennas was fixed at 1.5 m. The receiving antenna was placed in a circle around the transmitting antenna and the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) was measured. The measured RSSIs were converted to path losses and they were compared among mature stage, deciduous stage, and without plant case. As a result, it was found that horizontal polarization was mainly influenced by leaves and that vertical polarization was mainly influenced by trunks and branches. Also, the deviation of the measured values was smaller in horizontal polarization than in vertical polarization. The obtained radio wave propagation characteristics are useful for building a farm sensor network.
