The future mobile communications systems (5G), which enables data transmission rate as high as 10 Gbps has been the focus of studies recently. To transmit data with very high bit rate, wider bandwidth channels are required. One approach is using high frequency bands over 6 GHz (6-100 GHz). Considering applying the high frequency bands to the urban street canyon environment in which, the base station antennas may be installed at roadsides or at walls of high-rise buildings with low antenna heights, and the density of pedestrians and vehicles are high, the time-variant channel characteristics cause of blocking paths or appearing new paths due to scattering by moving objects such as pedestrians and vehicles may degrade the beamforming gain of array antennas. In this paper, we use a massive array antenna and channel sounder to measure channel characteristics at 20 GHz band and evaluate the beamforming gain degradation of the array antenna with a parameter of element or size. |
